Mirjam Guesgen

Freelance Science Writer

I am a freelance science writer currently based in Toronto, Canada, with a particular interest in animal welfare.

I love communicating complex, scientific ideas in an engaging, balanced, thought-out and informative way.

EDITING SERVICES

I am available to line or copy edit non-fiction books and manuscripts, and I specialize in academic texts.

Line editing involves improving the flow of your paragraphs and sentences so your story or message shines—all while retaining your, or your institution’s, voice. Repitition? Clunky sentences? Tricky to read? Not anymore!

Copy editing means making sure the text meets specific grammar, spelling and punctuation requirements, such as those of a particular style guide or journal.

I am the former editor of New Zealand’s only dedicated veterinary science magazine, VetScript, where I oversaw an international team of contributors.

I have also worked with individual academics to either ghost write or edit their academic manuscripts before submitting them for publication in research journals.

Finally, I have worked with a not for profit to edit a full book totalling more than 90,000 words.

I have subject-matter expertise in animal science psychology, and animal welfare.

Please get in touch to discuss timelines and rates.
